Anna Karenina is a gushy romantic film that’s not funny in any way. I understand why this film is skewing female.

That said, it was easily the single most visually stimulating movie of the year.

This film, which tells the very basic but lush love stories of Anna Karenina (Keira Knightley), her husband Karenin (Jude Law), Count Vronsky (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), as well that of Levin (Domhnal Glee
son) and Kitty (Alicia Vikander). The story to me didn’t matter. This film had the best cinematography of the year except PERHAPS, for “Life of Pi”; It had the however, some of the most amazing production design in the history of cinema.
The performances were very good across the board, especially from Vronsky and Karenin, and of course, Anna herself, who turns in a performance likely to get her an Academy Award nomination.

I give this movie it’s rating however, mainly because, in the long history of cinema, this movie accomplished things never seen on the screen before. For that, I grant it:

  A Four StarsAnna Knightly
